The Fictional Tourist
“After reading ‘City of Joy’ I absolutely had to go to India; ‘Steinbeck’ took me to southern California; and who doesn’t read ‘Hemingway’ when in in Paris”.
Hi, I’m Alison also known as The Fictional Tourist, and I live in the Riverina region of New South Wales (NSW) in Australia. I have many passions in life and this blog is a culmination of most of them – travelling, reading, cooking, oh and photography. I’m a full-time Paramedic, but shift work means I have plenty of days off and annual leave so I’m able to take two overseas trips a year and many local (short or long) trips around Australia. My friends say I’m always on holiday and yes sometimes it feels my life is like a book tour, but holidays, or even a weekend away provides an educational experience, a culinary delight and above all else is good for the soul!
l’ll give you an insight into what inspired the destination and all the planning and research that went into the journey, and also how to find the best deals to get you there.
MY VISION
I’ve decided to write a blog as my friends and family follow my trips on Facebook and often ask why I chose a destination. In fact, my sister asked, “Why on earth would you want to go there,” when I said I was going to the Arctic Circle last year.
Most comments though are asking for more details, how did you get there, how did you find that quirky apartment and did you really eat BBQ rat? (That was in Cambodia, and the answer is “No,” even though I said I might/maybe ….. just in case you were wondering!)
“Join me as we go where our heart desires, and discover ourselves along the way”.
